Information about the Bethune-Cookman course syllabus, registering in a technical degree program to develop job skills, and taking free practice tests online. Which degrees will give you the best chances of landing a job after you graduate? Some students select a major because it teaches them practical skills that are valuable in the workplace. Other students choose their major because they love the subject. Earning an advanced degree isn't as hard as it may seem, and by combining work-study or internships with your class schedule, you can defray the additional tuition costs. The most popular college major is business, split equally between men and women. On the other hand, men make up the majority of computer science and engineering majors. For women, education, English and liberal arts dominate the list.

Online education can open up the opportunity to take difficult courses that won't show up on your transcript, if you so choose. Alternatively, you can complete additional credits for a grade. Advanced Placement exams are offered in a variety of academic subjects, offering you college credit for advanced classes that you have taken. Test yourself with practice exams online, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be able to receive course credits or advanced placement in college.

Doing business online is a great option to supplement your income while still a student. A few simple steps will help you start your own e-Commerce business. By registering a domain name, pointing the name servers to your hosting company, then building an active website in HTML or via a WordPress template, you're in the game. Similar to magazine page layout, website design includes the fields of graphic design, copywriting, and search engine optimization (SEO). Success is governed by two factors, visitor traffic and online sales conversions. There are many search engines which offer pay per click (PPC) advertising, with Google Adwords being the most popular.

Online Courses - MOOCs

Bethune-Cookman pagenameThere are over 6,500 accredited colleges and universities in the United States, which collectively enroll over 15 million students, granting two million bachelors degrees a year. Pursue your career interests, not high-paying starting salaries, and your overall job earnings will increase over time as you gain business experience. If you focus your degree choice on salary alone, there is the risk that you may suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending college, and you might end up earning a lot of money as a highly-skilled, technical consultant, or by starting your own small business. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, and offer a variety of learning platforms, utilizing cloud-based software and Google apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree earned on campus. Udemy online learning, a site which allows anyone to build (or take) online courses, is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Khan Academy now offers over 3,900 micro-lectures available via YouTube. Coursera, another online-learning software platform, has millions of enrolled students around the world. Through MIT Open Courseware online classes, educators can improve development of their curricula, making their instruction more effective.

Technical Degree Programs

While some fields insist that you have a four-year degree just to get a job interview, other high-paying careers like computer programming, health care, or small business administration, may be entered with an associates degree. An associates degree is a two-year program that either results in an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. It is often a general degree that is structured similarly to the first two years of a bachelors degree. The greatest downside to an associates degrees in the job market is only that you will be competing with individuals holding bachelors degrees. Therefore, make sure you're comfortable in the niche you've chosen.

There is indeed a shortage of nurses, but please be aware that the education required is very challenging. Community colleges offer an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and some diploma programs also award certificates in practical nursing. Nurse training can take a long time to complete, based on your ability to learn, and whether you are able to attend nursing school full-time. Deciding whether to get an associates degree or a bachelors degree should depend on your career goals and budget. In fact, most students may not have the means to attend four straight years of college.

US College Rankings:

Every year, US News, Money Magazine, and a few other national magazines publish annual college rankings. Another guide, best known for their 'Forbes 400' list of the richest people in America, the Forbes rankings have been getting a lot of attention for their list of 'America's Best Colleges.' New college rankings aim to reflect a greater emphasis on student satisfaction, as well as recognizing academic achievement. For critics of the U.S. News & World Report college rankings, the new Forbes College Ratings seem to be more balanced, and include high rankings for many smaller colleges. Peterson's Guide is a comprehensive guide to US colleges, designed for students trying to choose between competing colleges and universities.

Although the cost of tuition has risen for most 4-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools remain an affordable option for those looking to earn an associates degree. The average community college student graduates with only a few thousand dollars in debt, compared to bachelors degree graduates. This means that AA degree graduates not only can save money on college, but can repay their student debt much earlier. Further, if you transfer to a 4-year college later, you can save money on the first two years of your education by studying at a local community college, but still receive your bachelors degree from a four-year university.

Create a Part-time Income Online

The goal here is to show you how to design a simple website that gets listed on search engines, and is able to generate a cash-flow within a few months. Sure, you've seen lots of sites telling you that it's easy to make money online, but if it was that easy, everyone would be rich. The truth is that creating a part-time income for yourself is possible, but it's a fair amount of work up-front. If you keep working on it a few hours a week, you can increase your daily earnings as your website develops. The basics are as follows:
Website Design Course
(6 steps to learn)
  1. Get a hosting package. Costs $5/mo, including a domain name.
  2. Website design can be simplified, using templates and RSS feeds.
  3. Write one 900 word article daily, with original photos.
  4. Drive search engine traffic via on-page optimization.
  5. Get approved to Google AdSense, and other affiliate programs.
  6. Earn money, beginning with $1/day, and keep publishing.

Doing business online is one of your best options to raise extra income. Success is governed by two main factors, visitor traffic and sales conversions. There's no rent to pay when starting a business online, unless you count yearly domain name registration and monthly website hosting, both of which are minor. The easiest way to start is by opening a Wordpress blog, and monetizing with Google AdSense pay-per-click ads. If you've tried Adsense before, but only made a few cents per click, you have a lot of learning to do. Just making a website isn't enough, if no-one can find it. You'll then need online marketing skills, and the ability to drive conversions. All of this takes work.
